Why Body Image Affects So Much More Than Your Appearance
Blue moon 31. May 2026 in Sagittarius period of radical truth-telling, liberation, and expansion.
This month’s Blog Post reflection focuses on a coaching question that feels really important right now.
“Why do I feel like body image has my life in a tight grip rather than just being an issue in my life?”
We live in a world where we are constantly bombarded with messaging around our appearance and our body. Especially girls are taught from an early age that in order to be a good, successful and a loved person we must look a certain way. I am sure we can all think of a fairy tale in which the wicked witch was the ugly woman and the innocent beauty was the heroine of the story… My love, let me tell you this is the beginning of your conditioning and it is everywhere. Open your eyes, you might see it now.
Those messages reach far deeper than we might realize.
Externally a woman who struggles to accept her body and her appearance simply has an issue with her looks.
You know the one that says “oh I look fat in those jeans.” “ I need to be good today and have salad instead of Pasta.” “ OMG, where did those wrinkles come from?”
But internally the struggle can be larger than anyone can ever imagine.
The ripples of disliking her appearance has her in a tight grip of managing her life rather than living it. Constantly trying to find the “fix” that will finally make her feel worthy of life. That will finally be her ticket to start living.
A study reveals that close to 50% of adolescent girls stop exercising because of poor body image. The fear to “look stupid” overpowers the desire to see what her body can do. To push beyond limits and potentially break records.
A large number of women do not socialize if they feel unworthy to participate.
The constant comparison to others has her hiding instead of showing up proudly sharing her ideas with the world.
Body image concerns don't magically disappear in adulthood. Many women still avoid swimming, gyms, group fitness classes, team sports, photographs, or social activities because they feel self-conscious about their appearance.
All of that is the reality of someone living with Body Image Issues. The severity and impact on someone’s life might vary, but they do have one thing in common: Body Image no longer is something they want to change, it is something that manages their life.
So for the outsider, the issue might just be “a dissatisfaction” when for the person living with it - it is everything!
My love, if you are reading this and it resonates with you, please know: Your body is not the problem. Your body doesn’t need to change for you to finally be worthy, to finally be able to start living.
But your relationship with your body has to change.
So my question for you is:
Are you ready to start healing?
Please share your thoughts with me, I genuinely would love to hear from you because I truly care!
Much love Marisa x
