5 Things I Love Right Now – Finding Joy in the Everyday to Support Your Mental Wellbeing
Full moon 10. July 2025 - full moon in capricorn prompting us to assess the balance of our emotional needs vs duty
I feel really drawn to share with you the things that bring me joy at the moment. The last month for me was about tapping into things that I enjoy to balance the “jobs” and responsibilities I have on my plate.
This theme — the dance between what we have to do and what we love to do — has also been coming up in coaching sessions with clients. It’s such a core part of maintaining mental wellbeing, yet so often neglected. Many people I work with reach a point where the grind feels relentless, and they’ve forgotten what actually brings them lightness.
So please let this Blog post be an inspiration for you - and maybe you want to jot down some other things that pop up in your mind as you read the things that I love doing and that light me up at the moment.
Being creative
This is a constant in my life, an outlet that I need to feel balanced but sometimes I don't make the time to paint, craft, decorate, renovate furniture or design something. In the last few weeks, I’ve made it a non-negotiable. It’s my version of self-care. And I LOVE it, but what’s so cool about it is that it is also a proven tool to support burnout prevention.
2. Spending time in nature
Imperative, a MUST for me and it lights me up to my core. Rain, sun, hail, snow whatever the conditions I always feel energized after a stint of spending time outside. Being outside to me is almost an instant tool to reduce stress.
3. Reading “nonsense” novels
There’s something deeply soothing about a book with a predictable plot and a happy ending. For a long time, I felt embarrassed about how much I enjoyed light reads but releasing that block has been freeing. It is ok to give your brain a break sometimes, this actually helps with emotional resilience.
4. Being fully present with my kids
These school holidays, I gave myself permission to step back from the hustle and just be Mama. Not multitasking. Not trying to squeeze work in while looking after the kids. It’s been grounding and has reinforced one of the most powerful work-life balance strategies I know: presence.
5. Decluttering
Oh my god, this is a double edged sword as I don't enjoy the actual process (I mean who does?) but I LOVE the feeling of letting go of clutter and LOVE having a tidy organized space.
While I am not actively pushing myself to work on new and existing projects, I am planning my upcoming day retreat and this lights me up too. I am embedding some of my creativity in the offering and love the feel and intention that I can feel building behind this event.
If you’re based in Nelson, Tasman or Marlborough and are looking for a mental wellbeing reset, this retreat could be perfect for you.
We still have some spots available. While the Earlybird special has now expired, I’ve added a little bonus for my blog community: use the code FULLMOONBLOG for a NZ$10 discount.
What lights you up at the moment? I would love to hear your thoughts on this - just send me an email.
And if you are on the fence about joining the retreat please don't hesitate to reach out to me. I always love hearing from you.
Much love Marisa
